Taxes in MEPCO Bills

The following are common taxes typically found on MEPCO bills:

Fuel Price Adjustment (FPA)

The Fuel Price Adjustment is set by NEPRA based on variations in fuel prices and generation costs. If the fuel costs for a particular month exceed the reference cost, an additional average amount is included in the bills of all MEPCO consumers. Conversely, if the fuel cost is below the reference cost, an average amount is deducted from the bills of all consumers.

Tariff Rationalization Surcharge (TR Surcharge)

The Tariff Rationalization Surcharge reflects the difference between NEPRA and GOP tariffs. The Government of Pakistan (GOP) covers the difference as a subsidy if the difference is positive. The distribution company pays the GOP as an Inter DISCO Tariff Rationalization Surcharge if the difference is negative.

Financing Cost Surcharge (FC Surcharge)

Applicable to all consumers at the rate of 43 paise per unit, the Financing Cost Surcharge is collected to repay loans.

TV Fee

A charge of Rs. 35 is added to MEPCO bills to support Pakistan Television (PTV).

Deferred Amount

Consumers can choose to pay This portion of the bill later without incurring late payment charges. Future bills may include this deferred amount in instalments or in full.

Quarterly Tariff Adjustment (QTR Tariff Adjustment/DMC)

This adjustment is usually applied every three months and not every month.
